Hi, I wonder if someone can help? I'm trying to find out how to appeal/protest against the actual positioning of double yellow lines. To (try) to cut a long story short, a few feet of double yellows have been extended to several blocks worth of double yellow which I and many fellow residents feel are unmerited, given the level of traffic in our area. None of us has received a penalty notice yet as we do not park there, so we do not wish to appeal against a penalty, but the positioning.Hoping someone can help - many thanks.

The lines should have had a consultation period before they got extended during which you should have complained, its much harder to get them removed once legally installed.
Ah, good old "consultation" periods. We all know how those work, or rather how they don't work. I'm sure plenty can remember the "consultation" that Red Ken held in respect of the extension of the congestion charge zone. 75% of respondants were against it, but Red Ken ignored that overwhelming majority and went ahead with it. The consulations, especially in respect of parking restrictions, are just lip service and nothing more.
All parking restrictions must have a Traffic Order and if the DYL has just been extended, it's possible that there is no new Traffic Order for that extension (some councils are lax/incompetent about that), which would make the DYL unenforceable.
You can ask to see the relevant TO at your local council.
