    Default ten downing street petition

    Just found out petition rejected.

The grounds were on possible libel issues and I cant understand why.
The petition was about the involvement of intrum justitia in the dwp framework as on their own Intrum.co.uk site. Another cager saw the article also and my concern was how can they transpose actions they do as in harassing people into paying money they might not owe, might not know about or could be dealt with better with info learnt from sites such as CAGicon. I said in personal instance the phoned repetitively to the extent of harassment and on various sites their name is linked to such actions so it cant as we know be a one off. They dont want to know it seems.
I thought it was freedom of speech and as a persoanl and not one off experience of dcas I cant understand why they wont let us say we have concerns. Or am I just stupid to expect they would print such an e petition????

I think if you mentioned IJ specifically it would raise 'issues' as they are not the only DCA the DWP use. I think there are/were others mentioned on the DWP website so to single out one above the others would likely lead to a rejection.

The best approach is the non specific route, highlighting the fact they are using certain private companies to collect taxpayers money. Not only does that give them an opportunity to make profits where they shouldn't be, it also raises questions of privacy in how much access they have to sensitive and private information which people would normally only give to a Government agency. This type of information has been abused in the past by debt collectorsicon and the Government should not be seen to be so reckless with information when it can be used incorrectly, sometimes with tragic consequences.

I managed to sneak one in under the wire for you

This should be quite popular with the Civil Servants too, but we need 200 absolute minimum before they will even consider a reply.

Maybe this is why the country is in such a state, we just all roll over and let it happen without a squeak of protest, it takes 2 mins to sign these petitions at least it gives us some kind of voice unless there is and election and there wont be one til 2010 by all accounts!

The same thing happened with the DCAicon petition that was running previously, but because it ran for a year and was linked from other sites like MSE and DQ's it eventually got 400+ signatures and a reply from the Gov.

This is always the problem, as CAGicon found out when they marched on the OFT (if I remember rightly). People are very vocal on forums, but only a few are prepared, or are serious enough to actually try to do anything about it. The 'what's the point??' & 'nobody listens anyway' mentality always prevails, and then everybody stands in the corner of the field bleating. That's how they get away with these things

It's just the 'way of the world' and human nature, unfortunately.

This country is increasingly racking up large amounts of debt. This is causing massive social problems. Creditors are abusing their powers by employing debt collection agencies that have inflexible working procedures. They are ignoring debt collection guidelines issued by the Office and as it is not a statutory document they are not breaking any rules. Making these guidelines statutory would relieve borrowers of some of the pressure from their creditors and agents.
I wish this could be made into a sticky!! Maybe if everyone here could notice it, more would sign?
I've lost my way a bit since the forum revamp, and can't keep up with a lot of things - so if this is already a sticky somewhere my apologies!

I agree with your point, but that petition site does not give you a voice. It just gives Mr Brown another tool with which he can ignore you..
