Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.

My husband and I are both considering using DCA Home Learning, mainly because of convenience and the payment plan they offer. I was wondering if anyone had ever used them or heard anything bad about them? Their payment plan is quite reasonable, and I believe it may be in-house financing. For example, one of the courses of interest is the Certified Accounting Technician. The cost of the course is £969. Make a down payment of £39 and then pay £77.50 over 12 months, no interest. However, I can't find any bad press about them, as averse to that other home learning institute that uses Aequs Finance.
I just checked them out as I went through similar.
I notice they provide the ECDL computer course for £199 which includes all learning materials and distance support.
However, they fail to mention anything about registration and exam fees, which is what you must do in any case and which can be expensive.
I'm doing the ECDL course at my local library where they have registered me for £25 and I will pay £35 for all the exams and, of course, the learning materials are free as it is the library. Therefore, a saving of £139 if I had chosen DCA, bearing in mind that registration and exam fees are not mentioned either, so it could be £199 just for books I can get for free and some distance support.
I'd check out how much it is to register with the Institute of Charted Accountants and how much each exam will cost first and then check with DCA to see if the fee covers that.
If that is representative of what they charge then you will be bankrupt before you finish any course.
Look around, and try other places, you can get courses at college for free in some cases.

Thanks all I see what you mean. However, the only reason we were considering learning from home was because my husband is away 5 days a week with his job. Something like this would be doable as he has a lot of time on his hands at night. As for myself, I have a toddler to take care of and am often on my own and this would be a consructive way to spend my time when she's asleep.
I've had a browse at Open University and also ICS Learn. ICS Learn offers more in the areas my husband wants to focus on and they also, luckily, have an interest free payment plan (although he's hoping to get his employers to foot the bill for the courses). Open University is quite pricey...for us anyways! They offer student financing at 8.5%APR, but with my husband's credit history, I'm not sure if he would be able to obtain the loan. Plus, the payments are like £200 a month :o Anyways, it's given me something to chew on. Thanks again
Yes, mrs.wifey, I'd first check out with who you have to register with, in your case the institute of accountants, to see the cost of registration with them and exam fees. You can then subtract that amount to what providers are charging.
Put it this way, the CEMAP course, mortgage brokers, can be as little as £500 to qualify but providers are charging £2.5K!!
As you are distance learning the books are free at the library or you may have to pay for some.
