Hi All,I recently put in a claim for housing benefit,on th form i listed my Natwest account which after paying off the overdrft i had left £1.16 in(i had claimed back over £1600 in charges so they wer'nt too happy with me)HB want the last 2 months statements from this account (I stopped receiving statemnts from them ages ago)I asked Natwest fo the statements 2 weeks ago and they said the account was closed but they would get me the statements, when i went in yesterday they still hadnt got them and i really need these!is there any avenue i can persue to get these from them?
Formally- not really because even if you submit S.A.R. it may take longer for Natwest to respond.
Informally- you can go to the Branch, explain your problem to the manager and ask them to compose a very short statement, on a comp slip, to confirm that you have requested statements and that these are delayed but on their way.
You can take this to your HB office- it will keep them happy. They like official pieces of paper. It will also stop your claim from being rejected/suspended.
