Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I'm new so forgive my ignorance.......My missus says that the credit card companies and banks can close your accounts and make you pay back any monies owing if you claim against them. Is this true? I'm trying to convince her to try and claim back her charges too (she has been charged the same amount as the national debt of some smaller African nations over the years) but she won't because she is too scared that they'll stop her account etc.
I'm not sure that it would be worth my while claiming back a couple of grand only to have to pay off an 8 grand debt immediately.
Depends what the debts are. They can't demand immediate payment of loans and mortgages but it's feasible they could ask for payment of an overdraft linked to an account you are reclaiming from.
Some banks have been closing accounts so it's worthwhile having another account on standby.
Just the FAQ’s ma'am. Please read 'em thoroughly before jumping in. Cheers

Hello there
I'll answer your question this time as your new but you shouldn't really jump on to someone else's thread *slaps wrist*
I had to go as far as issuing a county court summons before they caved and gave me my cash back (which included interest and court costs). When your ready, have a read of the FAQ's in the link below and then start up your own thread on the Halifax forum so you can keep us up to date and where you can ask any questions you might have.

I also meant to ask about further charges after (as and when) my claim is settled. If I bounce a DD or cheque or have a late payment for something can they just keep on charging me after settlement date? By accepting their payment for previous charges am I implicitly accepting it is ok to charge me from the date of settlement? Or do I let them just keep on charging me and claim all charges back at the end of each and every year?
If they charge you again then you just claim the charges back again, although I think it would always be worth just phoning when they happen to try and get them back. You could always drop into the conversation that you have already claimed charges.;-)
Look at the forums for the banks and cards you deal with for a feel of how they will react and read the FAQ's for more general information on how to claim your bank charges.
When the Liberals and Conservatives were in opposition they both agreed that banks should pay back high bank charges to customers. Nothing seems to of happened since they came into power as a coalition. PPI insurance has been sorted now they should turn their attention to bank charges and help customers get exorbitant charges refunded.
Should you be offered help that requires payment please report it to site team.
