    Default Additions/Littlewoods

Hi upon reading other peoples threads - I wonder if I have a case to reclaim , I have and had since 2005 three accounts with Shop direct which owns the above brands .The accounts are not in arrears and well run , last year I cancelled the insurance on all bar one , which I forgot until last month when I also cancelled the insurance with Additions , as I felt it was a waste of time.
Do you think I have a chance in reclaiming any back?
Has anyone else had success claiming from these companies?
    Thanks!

    Hi Northern Guy

I'm not sure of the answer to this, but i have a couple of questions that may help myself or others to respond:

Had you agreed to any of the insurances?

Did they notify you each year that the insurance was due to be renewed?

I'm midway through the tunnel, but getting closer to the light.

Hi there - I did agree to the insurance , the costs were monthly as a percentage of your balance . I cancelled last year due to the fact as I was ill for a short time and called up to enquire , and was told that as I had that illness previously it would not be covered (type of MRSA , infection - which put me in hospital twice) so no point having this policy as I was paying around £25 per month on each account (three accounts) , paid this for two - three years. So was quite mad about it , anyway I suddenly thought this month about it (Lost money) . I have now written a letter with all my current and previous account numbers on and sent special delivery.
So I was wondering if anyone else had tried to claim back via shop direct group .
The way I see it is , the insurance would only pay out if I died or were made redundanticon from work.

    Hi there.

I am sort of doing the same thing with the same companies.

The only difference I have is that my accounts were not run well are all in arrears.

I very much doubt that liitlewoods or additions will have a signed agreement from as I know that I accepted this over the phone. You could claim by saying that had the correct questions been asked they would have realised that you had an on going medical condition thefore you would not be able to claim fo this condition if you fell ill because of it.

I could be wrong but i think this is were you can get them for mis selling as the actual agreement is useless to you. Also if you did get ill with something different they are bound to try and find some connection with your illness especially with MRSA. Know what you are going through on that one as both my daughters have it as well with there eczema. .

There is bound to be a template letter to ask for it back. I have sent SARs for mine as I will have charges as well. It may be worth you doing the same so that you can calculate how much they owe you.

    Hope this helps a little

Sorry to interrupt the flow but i have a similar question, have gone through part of the claims procedure but i'm now stuck as to what to do next.

I've been a Littlewoods customer for years and in January 2000 agreed to sign up to their Extra Care Insurance, and started being charged for this on January 22nd 2000. They say a Certificate Of Insurance was sent out to me, i disagree, i can't recall to be honest. But i feel the policy was mis-soldicon, as i told the rep on the phone i was bed-ridden and disabled so no policy was going to pay out. But the rep insisted their policy was different and i certainly would be able to claim for something like additional illnesses. So they knew i was ill but stressed any future shopping with Littlewoods was dependent on me saying yes to the policy.

I was already in contact with Littlewoods Finance Company as they'd sold us insurance for a tumble dryer, and in November of 2007 the dryer nearly killed us in a house-fire, so i thought i'd query the Extra Care Insurance policy. Luckily i'd cancelled the policy last year but still thought i could at least attempt to crawl back some money. My reply from them was business like and civil but the reasons they give for not returning any money are curious.

They say their reps always read from a prepared script, therefore never make mistakes. Of course there's no mention of the blackmail attempt regarding future dealings with Littlewoods.

They say that i stated i was not eligible for sickness cover but i was eligible for the following benefits of the policy: Life Cover, Critical Illness Cover, Merchandise Cover, Hospitalisation Cover & Unemployment Cover. So they knew i was ill but was still eligible for the previous benefits outlined....but how was i going to claim for these policy benefits when i was ill/disabled at the time of the policy being sold to me?

And, as the policy was sold to me prior to 22nd December 2003, i'm unable to refer my claim to the Financial Ombudsmanicon as Littlewoods were not a member of a Dispute Resolution Service and if i decided to contact the FO myself i would fail.
Okay, they weren't a member of a Dispute Resolution Service prior to December 2003 but Littlewoods is part of a larger company, surely they were members of this DRS?

My instinct is to pass my details on to the Financial Ombudsman, i feel the letter was written and phrased to deter all but the determined claimant. Maybe i'm wrong but i still think they owe me money from at least the year 2004 onwards. Could anyone advise me please?

    Thankyou.

Hi, I dont know about DRS but you are correct Littlewoods IS part of a MUCH larger Company: Its Barclaysicon BANK.
My wife had a Littlewoods Credit Card traced back to Barclaycard ultimately it was Barclays Bank Plc we took to court for Penalty Charges.
More companies than you may think are in fact Barclays in disguise.

I would pass your case on to the FO as I think if any one has a case of missellingicon its yours , what Littlewoods will have done is sent you a standard letter , I would complain to the FO and take it from there .
    But dont give up!

Hi Olive Family My wifes account was a Littlewoods credit card, on the correspondance from them was the "Barclaycard" logo.
YES we did win all Penalty Charges Back -eventually
I sent a Data Protection Act request in February 2007
They delay you as LOOONG as possible
We filed a claim at Court in July 2007
The case was Stayed by the Court pending The OFT Test Case
31st October wrote to Littlewoods informing them we were applying to have Stay removed
10th November receieved offer for full Refund. We accepted.
They still dragged it out till 17th Dec 2007 when they said by phone they had refunded the money to wifes account.
    10th January 2008 finally confirmed.
You can still claim back CREDIT card charges it is only OVERDRAFTS that are being looked at in the TEST case.
Barclaysicon will mess you around as long as possible KEEP AT THEM YOU WILL WIN - eventually
We are are trying to get back PPIicon from Littlewoods and Barclays started in October 2007 havent got very far ------------ YET

Well done Norwich , it shows if you keep at it - you will win.
When you say PPIicon against littlewoods , was this against the catologue or credit card /barclaycard?
With regard to mine I have had a standard letter saying they are looking into it.
see what happens , thats why I am interested to hear if anyone has been down the same road against littlewoods for ppi reclaim.

hi Northernguy our claim was for "PENALY CHARGES" on a littlewoods credit card
We are trying to claim back PPIicon for a Littlewoods Credit Card and a Barclaycard
I have my statements and the terms and conditionsicon but not PPI Policy they will NOT send me it. They say its not covered by Data Protection Act or CCA section 78 as it does not relate to me personally< but they are ways to push them for
I have a Final Response not paying from them which i choose to disregaurd and carry on hammering away at them . The good thing is i can now go to the fosicon
I've got an ACE up my selve if I can get the PPI Policy I could resolve this fairly quickly.

    Hi Norwich1 and Northernguy

As I said in previous posts I have after both Littlewoods catolouge(two accounts one is LX direct)and littlewoods visa.

Two weeks ago I sent SARs to both of these
Littlewoods catolouge replied on the 26/02 saying thanks and they are collating all the info. On the Friday the 6th March i get a letter dated 5th March from a solicitor called Bryan Carter and co basically saying that I have seven days to pay and if I dispute liability then to write providing documents in support of my defence. The thing is in the refernce bit a the time it says R.E Phoenix recoveries(uk)ltd S.a.r.l Balance £500 so they obviously know I have done the SARicon. Have you guys heard of this.

Also with the littewoods visa I sent the SARicon the same day. On the 4th march I receive a letter from a company called Cabot Financial saying barclaycard have sold the debt. Fancy that. I take it barclaycard have still got to deal with the sar and hopefully ny payouts. Cabot will be a bit gutted. has anybody heard of these guys. They have a website and have testomonials on it from eople like us saying "how wonderful you all are even though you are DC you arefabulous"or words to that effect.

Any ideas what these guys are up to ???

    Hello Olive Family
I assume that you are in debt like myself because your account/s have been passed on to debt collectionicon angencies.
First, if you are having trouble with paying of your debts, ASP contact The Comsumer Credit Counciling Service Telephone number 08452725400
If you need to Contact Cabot their FREE phone number is 0800 9172226
I would like to add my Testimonial to Cabot they are the most polite helpful informative Company I have dealt with during the last few years scince I have been in debt. Unlike ANY of the Banks. Carbot have 3 of my debts including Littlewoods Credit Card (which of course is Barclaycard), Argos Loans and Citi Cards.
Littlewoods/Barclaysicon will tell you you have to deal with Carbot who will handle your SARicon. We have been through this process Carbot sent us Copies of Application Form and Credit T/Cs but not PPI Policy terms and conditionsicon as the SARs do not cover the PPI Policy.
Carbot advised us that we should also ask Little/Bar**** for the documents which we did.
Carbot have sent us the Copies of Application Form and Credit T/Cs
weeks ago. Little/Bar**** have just informed us we should receive the copy of Application 4 weeks time. Just shows how much better Cabot the debt collecters are than the Creditors.
LittleBar**** will NOT send me a copy of the PPI Policy T/Cs.
If you get one can you forward it to me somehow please?
It will be Barclays who will pay you what they owe you.

    Hi Norwich1,

Yes I am in debt. It is quite a few small ones. L/W Visa is for about £300. I am going for charges with this and I think that it will clear the debt with a bit left over. I have spoken to the CCCS before and they are great. The only thing is they apparently dont go along with the whole reclaiming thing so I thought I would do that first and CCCS can help me with anything left over.

I have just spoken to Cabot and they do seem very nice. They suggested that I write to them and they will send me the info I want. It is a bit sneeky of Barclaycard though as I sent the SARicon on the 19th Feb and they sold the debt to cabot on the 1st March.

    Regards
    Olives

    Hi there ,
interesting a debt collectionicon agency helpful! There is a few posts on here with reference to Cabot. But it sounds as though they also understand the situation . If youre stuck , it might be an idea to pop over too the debt collection board as there is a lot of knowledgeable people on there who could advise you well.
I will also follow too see if you get anywhere with LX etc , as I havent heard a thing since I wrote to them four weeks ago . I am about to send them a reminder.
Can I also ask which address you have all writtten to in case I have sent to the wrong address?

Thank goodness I found this site!

    Hi Olive Family
I claimed PPIicon from Agos Loans £612.00 in December 2007
I then found they had sold my debt to Carbot.
January. Argos had not paid and said they had not received my letter accepting their offer. I sent them a copy of acceptance.
I asked Carbot if they had received a payment from Argos. They said no.
Asked Carbot if they would accept a one off reduced settlement.
They offered to knock off £500 of my debt of £3600 on receipt of the refund from Agos.
February, letter from Argos saying they had credited my account in January. Carbot confirmed they had NOT.
Re-negotiated with Carbot who agreed to to knock £800 of my debt on receipt of money from Argos. They told me to send them a copy of the letter from Argos, and then Carbot the debt collectorsicon would chase Argos for the money.
    Revenge is sweet.
Frebruary another letter from Argos saying they had credited my account on the 15th February. I did not beleive them.
27th February. Carbot (who I do beleive) phoned me and confirmed Argos have paid.
Carbot are fantastic! They even ring me up to see how I am and if they can help me any futher.

I don't know, but my opinion would be it's nothing to do with them. Are they looking to prove that you do not have adequate cover so need to have their insurance? I am reluctant to give any of these companies personal info - i have grown to be very cynical
