The above is part of a Toyota Service Bulletin (TSB) issued in May 2005. Like many other Toyota owners I have been plagued by this fault which was incorrectly diagnosed in 2006 by my local Toyota dealer who charged me £200 for a repair that didn't fix the problem. This fault requires a new catalytic converter to be fitted at a cost of £1200-1400 and is common on 01 and 02 registered vehicles that have completed 40,000 miles. When I found out about the TSB I contacted Trading Standards who advised me of my rights to claim against Toyota under the Sale of Goods Act, because the component clearly wasn't 'fit for purpose'. The local dealer denies any knowledge about the TSB, but even more surprising is that Toyota GB also deny having any knowledge about it! If anyone has had a similar problem I would like to hear about it with the intention of highlighting the matter and getting Toyota to take responsibility.

Perhaps it might be prudent to post the rest of the TSB so we know what the fix/reason why is. This is usually detailed below and knowing these bulletins gives affected chassis ranges as well as countries affected. You need to be careful here as TSB's are generally sent to countries affected so depending on where you picked the TSB up it might not apply to your vehicle and the dealer might genuinely not be aware of it's existence. You also need to remember that RHD vehicles, believe it or not, are very different which is one of the reasons we in the UK get stung over prices.
Think you might be plucking at straws here but willing to listen.
Actually this is an old thread - and i was just posting in the hope the OP had resolved the problem as we may have a similar problem. We are currently investigating ours.
