Barclaycard have taken unauth £££ from Barclays Acct
I put two cheques into my acct on Monday, i went to see if they had cleared today and barclaycard had taken 314 on Tuesday which i obviously hadnt authorised them to do.
After being told in the branch there was nothing i could do as its the same group and we can do what we want we are Barclays the group etc i came home to find a letter stating they had taken the amount on tuesday and were well within there rights to do so.
Tried the Barclaycard care line and as you would guess they only man it from 9 - 5 mon to fri.
Firstly, how can this be legal, for any company or body to remove amounts from my bank account, i certaintly dont remember it in my Ts and Cs that barclays as a group could remove monies if they noticed it in my account.
Secondly, the reason i have an outstanding amount on the barclaycard is becuase i am disputing the fees they have charged me. I havent had the money and time to register it as a claim but have made several requests for the charges to be refunded.
The account was passed to mercers and beyond some six months ago and it has been several months since i had any communication from either barclaycard or mercers, i became fed up and frustrated with Barclaycards reluctance to deal with my requests as it was now passed to a collection agcy and they could not comment????
I had a card limit of 350, when i was initially charged it took it over this and since then i have refused to pay the charges it has escalated to over 800 pounds. More than half of which are charges.
Any thoughts, precedents, experience or comments would be greatly appreciated folks.

Hi Oblong,
The bank has the right to off-set debt (take credit to cover debts) from one bank a/c to another or from bank a/c to credit card a/c - this is common practice.
To reclaim any charges applied to the a/c in the last 6 years, just follow the process set out in Link 1 below in my signature panel - just click on the link.
The process is simple and BC should offer to credit you in full with all charges made - don't accept any lower offers. If you're lucky, you may not have to issue Court proceedings.
