    Talking clamping justice

This might bring a smile to a few

    Raid on car clamp firm

A BIRMINGHAM car clamping firm which sparked furious complaints from scores of motorists was today raided by trading standards officers.
Armed with a court warrant they swooped on the offices of Inter-Park UK in Valepits Road, Garretts Green, to search for evidence of illegal activity under the Trade Descriptions Act.
They were joined by police and members of the Security Industry Authority (SIA), which licences clamping companies.
Trading Standards watchdogs are investigating whether false claims have been made on Inter-Park's now closed website that it belonged to certain trade bodies.
It will now sift through evidence collected from the raid before deciding whether legal action can be taken.
Inter-Park is believed to be owned by Andrew Baker, whose previous ventures Autoclamp Ltd, in Erdington, and Area Car Parks Ltd, in Hockley, were struck off the official register by Companies House in 2005 and 2002 for failing to supply any accounts or information.
He is understood to have been in London at the time of this morning's raid.
Trading standards officers have received around 150 complaints from irate motorists about Inter-Park's activities.
Last April the firm caused outrage after allegedly swooping on fans' cars parked in Cherrywood Road, near St Andrew's, before Birmingham City's match against Sheffield Wednesday.
It is believed to have raked in thousands after up to 20 cars were impounded by the firm. The owners were charged up to £380 a time to get them back.
Earlier this month motorists complained after Inter-Park's clampers towed away up to eight vehicles from a Birmingham cash-and-carry, supposedly for being less than an inch over parking bay lines.
Shoppers at Latif's store in New Canal Street, Digbeth, were shocked to see their cars being towed within minutes of them being parked.
Coun Neil Eustace, chairman of Birmingham's public protection committee, said: "We have received a large number of complaints about Inter-Park from motorists who say they have been intimidated into handing over a significant amount of money to have their cars returned after being clamped.
"Some have had their vehicles removed for trivial reasons, such as not parking straight. Many who complained were elderly or disabled.
"We take this issue very seriously and it is simply not acceptable for this sort of thing to be happening in Birmingham."

    Default Re: clamping justice

What the SIA taking action against a clamping firm. I'm gobsmacked. Only several thousand more dodgy security and clamping firms to go.

    Thanks for the post.
