Hello all. What an amazing site! I have started to try and claim bank charges on my husbands account. Can someone help me here. We have had a fairly standard letter back saying will try to resolve by teh 10th July when our 14 day deadline was today! Also Capital One have said in another fairly standard letter that they need four weeks! What sort of response should one give? Some one out there please help! Thank you T X
Basically, ignore them! You dictate the deadlines and if they choose to ignore them then be it at their peril. They are obviously VERY busy, I don't doubt that, but if you gave them 14 days to reply and they haven't done then move onto the next stage.
It might be useful to start a thread in the relevant forums (Barclays & Capital One) where everyone can see how you are getting on and also be able to answer any questions that you might have.
Good luck and keep us posted

Hello, Hope someone can help here and also a warning to others hopefully. I took a letter to our bank on behalf of my hubby asking for loads of bank statement copies and enclosed a £10 note for which I asked for a receipt. The Personal Manager bod said she couldn't accept the £10 cash so would I bank it and the amount would be taken from the account. It took two weeks to receive the statements and they have taken £30! I am hopping up and down like a dimented frog! What really annoys me is they don't even warn you!

Re: Just Spotted This On the Barclays Web Pages re Loans!
Hi tattietoo,
couldnt agree with you more, I also read their "call us and we will be happy to help" statement.... yeah right, as usual Barclays were happy to be unhelpful. I read out the statement and still no help, this sort of thing just makes you more determined to get back what Barclays have deducted from your accounts....

Re: Just Spotted This On the Barclays Web Pages re Loans!
My father was taken seriously on christmas eve resulting in having to pay for accomodation and expenses in london over christmas and new year. This sent my account seriously into the red. My loan repayments bounced. They called me and arranged a temporary repayment schedule for 4 months which I stuck to. At the end they wanted all the difference between the contracted payments and the temporary payments in one go. It came to about £700. So much for making it easier, they just make it harder in the long run. They refused and extension to the loan repayment period.
BEFORE starting your claim read through the FAQ's and if there's something you aren't sure of then ask.

Re: Just Spotted This On the Barclays Web Pages re Loans!
Thank you Blueskies. I went into the branch on Monday and said we are going to struggle this month again. Lady was terribly nice and when I suggested they defer payment for a month to allow us to catch up she proceeded to try and call her boss to "change the date the money would be taken". Obviously not listening! She couldn't get thru. Yesterday she left a message at home saying still couldn't get her boss but call the 0845 number and ask them to do it. Thin is, if they just returned the charges, it owuld pay the loan this month! But that it far too simple! Banks really do make life difficult. Its just a shame that we have to have bank accounts!
Thank you again and I hope you Father is better, is he?
Please can someone tell me if OFT have actually set £12 as a fair charge for late payments. Barclaycard have made an offer and claim this.
Many thanks
T

Just an update.
Following an offer from Barclaycard which said they would charge £12 instead of £24 and would credit the amount to our July statement, I have immediately written back and asked how they came up with this figure and quoted from my initial letter the bit that sais "is you disagree with this then send me a schedule of costs bla bla bla". I have also pointed out that OFT have said £12.00 as an absolute maximum and therefore would question their "gesture of goodwill".
I di wonder if been a bit too strong. We didn't mention their offer and will see if they credit the account anyway.
Thank you again for all your help and as soon as the "dosh" starts rolling in we will donate. Can't even afford the tax on the car at the moment! Just ridiculous when these banks have been ( edit ) for so long!
Good luck to all

Where are you with 'accepting or not accepting' - are they crediting your account because you did?

Good Morning! Didnt actually say in the letter whether we would accept or not. I have noticed that Barclaycard are difficult about supplying past statements, microfiche thing, however I noticed this after I had posted the letter back to them yesterday. I'm wondering that by asking how they came up with the figure of £202, whether we will by-pass the wanting statements? I don't know if they have added interest to that figure (202) or not but if they have we can effectively double that figure with them having suggested a £12 charge instead of £24. Does that sound right? That would clear the account and put us in credit which would be nice! So, sorry to answer you question no, we didnt accept it but we didnt turn it down either and we will see if they credit it anyway in which case I think we might be able to jump up and down a bit 8) ?? Going to do an lba to Barclays now.
Have a good day and look forward to your response on the above.
T X
OK - the fact that they have credited your account with the difference is a bonus. However, £12 is still far too much to have charged you, so just be sure you now claim the correct amount (bearing in mind their refunds)
