    Default The Last straw re:Barclays

2 days ago we went £5 overdrawn and got charged £30+

rang the bank and arranged the overdrafticon to be extended to cover an adminstrative cock up by the wages account, and was confirmed .

then passed onto someone who was supposed to confirm, and after a long phone callicon about the advantages of other Barclaysicon services i sat back with relief.

today we get a letter saying we had just signed up for barclays travel insurance and roadside recovery ???????
rang to cancel,as they wanted £13 a month for services i already get via car insuranceicon.

this is where we find out that the overdraft had NOT been passed, and that further charges were on thier way.As we had paid a few bills knowing we were safe due to the temporary overdraft increase.
rang the bank and they simply wouldnt give us the name of the person who assured us the overdraft was raised ?
BUT they freely volunteered the name of the insurance salesman who had brassed us into buying these account add ons.

as of now we are gleening all the details of previous charges and requesting them back.
we are not against charges,[reasonable charges that is]
but we are against the dirty and underhanded way they lied about the overdraft, simply to pass us onto a schiester selling insurance.

    2 questions...

1: can we request the details from the bank of 6 yearsicon of charges and interest charges, instead of digging out all our statements and going thorugh them.?

2: can we get anything done about being blatently lied to and conned into buying insurance and roadside assistance add ons ?

    another question....
is there a forum section where i can have a good scream and shout in the most profane and foul manner,or must i find a quiet spot in the brecon beacons and vent loud enough to be picked up on the folkstone doppler radar 200 miles away.

    Welcome new person *waves*

1: can we request the details from the bank of 6 yearsicon of charges and interesticon charges, instead of digging out all our statements and going thorugh them.?
Yes indeed. It's called a data protection act Subject access requesticon (DPA letter). It's in the templates folder along with some notes. This is all covered in the FAQ (like... you *have* read the FAQ right...)

2: can we get anything done about being blatently lied to and conned into buying insurance and roadside assistance add ons ?
Doubt it. Just write a stinking letter of complaint (making sure you have also cancelled the insurance!) You might get a grovelling apology. But then again, you might not...

All of them, though they seem to have turned on the profanity filter - you can get away with some words, but others are automatically filtered. Creative used of punctuation works for me though!

    Good luck.

I`m actually printing out the faq,so i can sit down later and go through it with a hot choccy.

thanks for answers, though i had better hold off on the screaming ab dabs for now,i`m still seething from talking to some woman at Barclaysicon who wouldnt answer the question about how they allow people to lie and then send them onto an insurance schiester.

same woman tells me they would never raise the overdrafticon above a months wages anyway, and when i told her the overdraft was set years ago when i was only part time and on £600 p/m,yet they set it at £1200 .
then followed a few uhmm`s and ahhh`s and a swift sending to the complaints dept.
code of conduct ?..my sweet derierre, they have no code of conduct.

have just cancelled the roadside and travel insurance, remembering how they added it, they told me it was a benefit to the account, and not an add on to be sold via a third party.

whoops...theres goes the blood pressure again.

ps...thank god the hubby was reading threads here,i almost set thge ball rolling BEFORE opening another account elsewhere.
doing that as of 3.30pm this afternoon.

pps...btw,when asked on who to send the claim for charges to,it took 6 attempts to get the answer.
she said first theres no point, due to contract on opening account.
she then said theres no dept to receive said claim,
she then turned to ignorance, saying she knew of nobody else doing this.

and after i mentioned the tv prog on recently about the masses turning on banks for these charges, she says send it to the address at the top of the overdraft charges letter received.
then and only then did she shunt us to the complaints dept.

rang Barclaysicon today, asking for statements, all statements being sent for £5.
and the person on the other end then says "my my you have had a few overdrafticon charges in the past few years. [cats outa the bag methinks]

passed onto another person who starts asking if our overdraft was sorted out yet ?????
ask her name...voila..same woman who refused it and also passed us onto an insurance salesman yesterday.
she then arranges the overdraft, with a lot of attempts to sell us more travel insurance or roadside recovery and this time even mobile phoneicon insurance.

she gets a little offish when we say stop trying to sell us insurance and just say wether the overdraft has been extended or not.

    end result...
no insurance and an extended overdraft,WITHOUT swapping to a different account with higher charges.

anyone know how long it takes for the statements to arrive ?
so we can start with the long trawl through them to work out how much we have been bled by.

It sounds like you've got a Barclaysicon Additions account. They tried to sell me one. If you cancel the account within three months they will refund any monthly fees you have paid.

    Hope this helps!
