Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Just phoned n power to have a prepayment meter removed and a normal meter put in, said they cant do it as i owe 350 in old debt. i have lived here for 6 years and the meter was already in. My ex hubby lived here but in 2003 we parted, then divorced. Rang n power a year ago because meter was not working was told account still in my exs name, had a big fuss but they decided over the phone to change it to my name.
Well today when i questioned the debt they said when i phoned last year i agreed to take full responsabillity for my exs debt which must have come from when we got together.
After a big argument they asked me to fax proof i moved in 6 years ago, so i sent copy of my mortgage forms.
Have not phoned back and not sure what to do next. they say they have been taking 2.50 per week from my meter for 4 years yet when i look on the meter display it says debt £0,
any clues how to handle this??
Thanks
well got so annoyed that i phoned energywatch. they put me through to the complaints manager at n power, going to look into it and send confirmation, to check when meter was put in. hmmm we shall see what happens
what they told you was correct, as your name was placed on the account you agreed to the debit on the account. fair enough you might not have been aware of this. as it wasnt a new account. What should have happened was you request a new account then sent in proof so you have a new account with effectivly a Zero balance. of credit and debit.
