hi there!
i watched Martin Lewis on t.v and saw about how to reclaim mis-sold PPI's. so i followed his advice and wrote to Welcome finance about a loan i had taken from them last year. they told me i needed to take out PPi to have the loan. i am self employed so wouldn't have covered me if i had needed to claim!! so i wrote requesting my money back. i paid off the loan a couple of years early as had enough cash to do so.
did recieve a response back, saying wasn't missold etc etc. i thenfollowed Martin Lewis's advice of asking the Financial Obudsman to look into it for me. They are doing this now.
Having read through some posts on this site, i think i may not have gone into enough depth. There is a lot of information on this site and now am worrying that my case may not work. What shall i do? can i start again, using information form this site? help!!!!
You need to be persistent with Welcome. they are renowned for giving you the run around.
As you were self employed it was evidently pointless in taking the PPI as you would not have been covered. The Ombudsman will see that pretty quickly and have little sympathy with the lender.
Also they will try to tell you you can opnly claim the once. That is not strictly true you can claim as many times as you like as long as you challenge on different issues or aspects each time.
hi, thanks for your reply. is there anything i should be doing now? the obudsman said i need to wait eight weeks, and see if i get a response from welcome. Hmmmm.....
i also have a credit card with Barclaycard that has some type of insurance on it, can iclaim that back too, or wait till this one with Welcome is resolved first???
Thanks
The fos will take time, but will do a thorough investigation. If you think you have more evidence you can send it to the fos to support your complaint.
Meanwhile write a letter of complaint to the Financial Services Authority, the Office of Fair Trading and Trading Standards, these complaints will be logged against Welcome and add to the list of misconduct and if enough complaints are logged they may fine them.
If at the end of the Financial Ombudsman investigation if they rule in favour of Welcome ( which I seriously doubt) you can still issue a claim via the court.
These things take time, so you need to be patient

hello. have recieved a reply back again as a final response from Welcome. They have said that i stated i was in permanent employment when i took out the loan. this is not true, i said i was self employed, and also sent them two yrs worth of SE60'S which prove i am self employed!!
i now need to send them a response saying i disagree and want to start legal proceedings. is there a template??

Hello Love bug,
I would forward this new information regarding your employment and your evidence of 2yrs se60's to the fos to add a bit more fuel to your complaint. I would also respond to welcome pointing out their underhanded tactics regarding this matter. Are they stating that you lied, rather serious accusation me thinks
Maybe consider leaving this in the hands of the fos for the moment, I believe that they are upholding 80% of mis-sold PPI cases. Your call at the end of the day:grin:
