Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
They have an excessivley (> 10K) credit card bill and have been paying PPI on this. My father is self employed, and my mum does not work.
My father doesn't earn much, and his income is affected by bad weather, so he can never be sure what he is going to earn.
From speaking to my Mum, it seems that Egg have refused to pay anything, and the fos have taken it as far as they can.
I have decided to research this a little, and I am new to PPI, so I am looking for a few wise words to guide me in the right direction.
It is very likely that my parents applied for the egg card online, and I presume they would have had to mention they are self employed on the form.
Like most people, they would probably have not unticked any boxes, or read the small print.
Is it worth me helping them restart their case using the guides here, or does the lack of interest from the FOS suggest there is no case to answer?
I have not yet ready any letters, or seen the letter from the FOS. I suspect she would have been following instrcutions on the MSE site as she isn't very good at finding her way around this site.

Re: Egg Credit Card - Can I reclaim PPI if self employed
There is a separate PPI Forum covering tussles with other institutions, but I shall confine myself to what I have read posted inside the Egg Forum. Many have tried to retrospectively reclaiim PPI but only two have succeeded.
One was AnnaLH, due to a blatant admin error by Egg. The other outright success was by TheEmpireStrikesBack. Judgment in court turned on whether the PPI box was ticked on his agreement, as evidenced by the screen print from Egg. Not sure if you have this already or not, but if not then you need to request S.A.R - (Subject access request) from Egg, the full monty option 3, returning a one-inch-high pile of paper, costing you £10 and probably taking 6 weeks.
Even if the critical box was NOT ticked signifying no intention to purchase PPI, you would have to answer the judge's probable question -- if you did not want it, why did you not protest for x number of years. Going by many failed precedents, your chances are not fancied if that box WAS ticked on the application Egg screen.
See "PPI" in the winners index in the thread "V-E Day - Victory over Egg" in the Stickies section above.
