Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Look out fot those police vans at the side of the road!
In the old days, a police "speed trap" used to be a guy with a speed gun standing out on the street who would stop you if you were speeding. I got stopped by one of these once for being 4mph over the limit but he let me off because it wasn't like I was whizzing along, plus it happened to be my birthday.
Now though, they hide in the back of a van parked at the side of the road & the first you know of a penalty is when the postman drops it through the letterbox.
Last week I got caught doing 39mph in a 30 zone. Fair enough I was going too fast, but the van that caught me was parked literally just a few yards in front of a 40mph sign!
The upshot was either pay £100 to go on a "speed awareness" course, or a £60 fine & 3 points.
This was purely a financial decision for me because it was not a built up road & I genuinely thought the limit was 40mph looking at the sign that the damn van was parked right in front of & that it was not a residential road!
The cynic in me wonders if they pick such a spot so as to catch people out & bring in the easy cash!
Anyway, the thing is, watch out for those vans! (and of course, don't drive too fast).
Re: Look out fot those police vans at the side of the road!
There is one that regularly parks in a bus stop on my way to work.
It is interesting in that it is marked as a police vehicle, but has amber coloured lights on the top.
There is a road in Slough where I have seen one of these vans about quarter of a mile before a GATSO spped camera. Presumably people think there is a distance to the camera, so are a little less than vigilant about their speed at the point where the camera van is parked.
