Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Have signed up this excellent forum to seek advice on behalf of my aged mum.
She is 78 and has two catalogues, Empire Stores and Littlewoods. On recently checking statements it seems she's been paying PPI on both for years and our early estimations put the cost at thousands she's paid them over the years (700 in one year for Littlewoods). She has had both catalogues for around a decade, but has never worked in that period.
Just really wanted to know whether we should pursue this on her behalf, as it seems mental to me that someone of my mum's age should be paying PPI and I feel very angry that she's been taken advantage of. I note that Redcats (owner of Empire Stores) were fined last year for mis-selling.
From what I've read your mum should not be paying this-her age & unemployed status would exclude her from being able to claim. Catalogues are very good at just adding this to your account and hoping you don't notice. Cancel immediately and pursue them for repayment of any premiums paid. I'm not an expert,so hopefully someone else will come along and point you in the direction of letters to send etc. Good luck
I have recently managed to claim back all PPI from Littlewoods, they sent me a letter in June/July with the policy documents as they had forgot to send them, my account was opened june 2006,I thought this strange as I had never requested it,they tried to argue that you have x amount of time to cancel the policy if you feel it is not right for you, well how could I,when I never received one, so they paid back the money taken for PPI,still got a claim with them for the admin charges plus interest on the charges and PPI.
I think you should go for it. And good luck,be prepared as they tend to take forever to send whatever you ask them for.But it will be worth it in the end.

Thanks a lot for any advice!
Hello Glasgowguy
Welcome to the forum, Your mum has very good grounds for mis-selling of ppi.
Start the process.
Send a SAR to them immediately, Cost £10 and they must supply all information relating to the account within 40days. There is a template letter on the sticky section above the threads on the ppi forum. Adapt it to your needs.
Once you get the info, calculate the amount of ppi that has been taken and send your preliminary letter asking it for it back.
We are all here to help you, so if you need help just ask.

Many thanks to all for the advice received so far. We've been totting up what this has cost my mum over the years and it runs to several thousand pounds. We'll definitely pursue this for her, and the templates will come in very handy.
