New-Confused New Member-Lowell (red) & Barclaycard
Hi Everyone.
I was doing a search on the above & found so many reponses!
My mother rec' a letter today from Lowell re. a Barclaycard debt of nearly £1000! My mother said she cannot remember having a barclaycard, but if she had, it would have been the early 1990s.
I called up Barclaycard, and they confirmed that an account had been active since 1991, but refused to tell me when the debt occured or the last letter sent to my mother (mum had a panic attack & was uable to talk), ergo they hung up on me.
Since 2002 I have been handling all of mum's papers, and dealing with any bills, etc which have cropped up. In this time I have NEVER received a letter from Barclays!
Where do i stand? What do i do? Waiting for mum to calm down before we can call Barclaycard again.
Surely they cannot chase a debt over 5 yrs old? And if they can, surely they should've given us warning, informed in writing of the debt sooner, or of it being sold off, etc???????
Just want to know where i stand before i go to town! And should i speak to Lowell first?
Thanking any replies in advance!
Re: New-Confused New Member-Lowell (red) & Barclaycard
Hi Dave
Many many thanks for that & we will be sending the letter off shortly.
I also just wanted to clarify something (sorry if i come across as being a bimbo).
After speaking to mum, she said that back in the early 90s (but before '93) the Citizens Advice Bureau helped write off this debt as apparently her situation had changed & was covered by the insurance taken out with the card.
My mother has been blacklisted for any credit for over 15 yrs & has definately not received any letters about this debt prior to me taking charge of her papers etc.
Is there any instances when Lowell/Red/whatever have not heeded this letter & still gone after the person? I'd be suprised if they still had the documentation after 15+ yrs!
Re: New-Confused New Member-Lowell (red) & Barclaycard
Lowells specialise in the purchase of Unenforcable and statute barred debts. A few years ago they bought a shed load of CAPONE debts now it seems they have done the same with a load of old Barclaycard debts.

Only by challenging these bullies by using the law can they be defeated. Complain against every illegal thing they do, complain about their harrassment and bullying calls. Complain about their breaches of the CCA and the OFT guidelines. Complain about their alleged offences under the Administration of Justice. Make sure they dot the i's and cross the t's
