Closed Bank Account With A&l

I am trying to trace an uncashed bankers draft from a closed Alliance and Leicester account from 2003.Unfortunately I dont have the account numbers and the Alliance and Leicester are saying they cant look up closed accounts without account numbers.Is this true or are they trying to fob me off?

I should think that they are indeed trying to fob you off - as long as they have names, proof of who you are and addresses they should be able to find the account number. If I'm wrong in my presumption, I'm sure somebody will jump in here.

I think your name and the address when you had the account and your new address would be enough. The data protection act refers to you, your name and address not necessarily an account number. In any event I'm sure they can search their data base on several parameters not just the account number.

Hi, My acc was closed yrs ago too, i had nothing to give them except address and name, they found all my details with a SAR icon

even though they had told me on the phone they had nothing!! Good luck.

Thank you for the replies unfortunately my SAR icon

application only returned information on accounts that were still live and yielded nothing on the account that was closed which is where the information i needed was to be found.Is there anything else I can do?
