Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights

When i got my insurance online 8 months ago with Swiftcover, i chose £500 excess to keep the costs down. Had an accident yesterday and on goin through my policy i notice the excess is £1000. Now i know the excess wasnt £1000 when i applied online because that amount wasnt available. I even did a test application yesterday online and that amount isnt available. The most you can have is £500!
So does £1000 excess stand even though i didnt choose it and you cant actually opt for it?
That'll teach me to not to read through my policy!
To be honest i think your last sline pretty much summed up the situation. When you got your docs 8 months ago, they would have confirmed your terms and any XS that applies. If you haven't read it through and called swiftcover to query any errors then unfortunalty there's nothing you can do.

You may find that it is £500 voluntary + £500 compulsory. If you're buying insurance online you need to read through all the documentation carefully, not just the summary, and then double check the hard copies when you receive them in the post.

Are you under 25? Sometimes insurers impose additional excesses for young drivers. They will be added on top of the amount you chose on the proposal form.
I went with Swift. The excess was £100 but I volunteered for £500. Only to find that I had volunteered an extra £500 on top of the £100. Can you get a copy of your online application.
