I wonder if anyone can help me with this. I went into Currys a few weeks ago to purchase a widescreen TV. I signed the agreement and passed on the credit check. When I got the TV home I realised it wouldnt be as suitable as I had thought when it comes to the digital change over and the picture quality was pretty poor. I rang the store and they said I could return the TV and pick another one. This I did. It was double the price of the first TV but as least it would be okay in the future. When they did the credit check I was turned down. The salesman rang the bank who said it had all gone through their end and there wasnt a problem. In the end it was sorted but now I had 3 searches on my credit file. The TV was great and no problems there. A couple of weeks later the salesman who had sold me the TV rang and said he had cancelled the wrong agreement. He has cancelled the second agreement (the more expensive TV) and would I go in and sign another agreement. I am really hacked off to say the least as this will entail another search on my credit file plus we were in the store a total of six hours the last time, they are sooo slow. I havent been in so far but I have had a letter today from their head office saying they havent recieved a signed agreement from me so are unable to process it further. The salesman has also phoned and asked me to go in tomorrow to sign the agreement and they are prepared to pay me a compensation of £20. They have also said they will get the manager to ring Experian to remove the searches. I feel once I have signed the second agreement (which I have done already but they have deleted the wrong one) then any chance of removing the searches and compensation for our time will be lost. What do you other guys think? Should I tell them to get lost or should I go in and do as they ask? Any help would be really appreicated. I dont want to get a black mark on my credit file with this.
From what you've said, Currys (despite making the mistake re the agreement) have acted professionally in calling you to let you know of the mistakes, and in offering to pay you compensation and contacting Experian, so I guess you could probably go ahead and sign the agreement - it shouldn't affect the compensation or credit file stuff. If in doubt though, you could ask for confirmation of this in writing before you sign the agreement.
