Question AA service centres are they any good? or no good mechanic in Loughborough

Got the big 60,000 service coming up after xmas ... which is going to cost me somewhere in the region of £400 pounds as it has to have something called the cambelt replaced. and full service

VW have quoted around £600 with the large full service included?

    Any comments, thoughts?

    Many thanks in advance

You would be very wise to to use the main dealer for the cam drive belt change. There are special tools for tensioning the belt and they are different for each make, so it is unlikely that any independent garage would hold one.
If it is not tensioned correctly (too tight or too loose), and snaps then you are looking at a very expensive repair.

You may also get a belt not of the quality that the dealer would supply and I doubt if you would get any joy from an independent if it breaks.

I am not saying that the small garage is incapable of good work, but if you should go down that road, try and get a recommendation and insist that he uses a belt supplied by the manufacturer of your car.

If you do use the AA, ask him if he will give you a warranty against the belt breaking.
