    Default A student loan question.

If a student loan was taken out for the period of 1997 - 2001 would all of the loan be covered by the CCA? My initial thought is that it would be because the initial part of the loan was made under the Act, but I would appreciate any other thoughts.

IIRC, each year i took out a student loan, it was a seperate loan agreement on the same account. IIRC all the people who started in 1997 were entitled to old style regulated student loans, and I think - although i can't be sure - this continued past 1998.

Quite correct. This was when The Teaching & Higher Education Act changed the rules for the loans.

The New-style loans are exempt under the 'Low interesticon' Regulations.

I appreciate that Dave, but are you saying that part of the student loan was under the Act and part of it wasn't, the whole of the loan is now the new style or that because the initial part of the loan was under the Act the rest of the loan has to be as well?

This was really what my original question was about. I am well aware when the new style loans kicked in.

I'm sure each individual loan is it's own entity (on an annual basis) which means that some of the loans could be old style and some new style.

Okay that clears that up. It was about 15 years ago since I took out a student loan so have no real idea of how the change of type effected people who were taking out loans before the changeover and then another one after the changeover.

Well I'm glad I checked becuase he has told me that any students who started uni before the Sept '98 intake would have ALL their loan on the oldstyle arrangement whereas anyone starting from Sept '98 onwards will have a new-style loan.

    I'm glad I checked!
