Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
We took out a loan March 2006 with Picture, and was sold a single premium PPI.
We ended up with more than we originally wanted, plus the PPI. He was very persuasive, almost like we could have it all and all this for only £xxxx a month. He was VERY good at his job!!!!
We now want to move and pay off the loan, but of course have found out that we will have to pay the full PPI.
Our points are:
Was not told the PPI lasts only 5 years, we thought it was for the life of the loan;
was not asked whether we had any other insurance which would cover the loan - (not 100% sure about this one);
was not told we could buy PPI elsewhere to cover the loan;
It was not explained to us that there were certain exclusions within the policy that could affect us - my husband is a firefighter, so would not be able to claim if he was injured whilst attending an incident that was due to terrorism, or 'came into contact with ionising radiations or radioactive contamination from nuclear waste' / 'radioctive toxic explosive or other hazardous properties of any nuclear device or component' - all of which could happen in his line of work - slim chance, I know - but is a possibility;
We paid upfront for the PPI but it was not explained that there were some PPI policies where we could pay monthly
Not sure whether to send a S.A.R - (Subject access request) first, or go straight in with a letter listing the above and see what they say?????
Grateful for any advice, as we really would like some of it back to help pay moving expenses!!!!!

Hello Welshjam and welcome to the forum,
Personally I would send a SAR to them, it would be a shame to get halfway down the process and realise that you have let them off with something.
I feel everyone wants it done quickly, it won't be, it takes time and time well spent on getting the correct info will be valuable to you in the long run.
Keep us posted.
If any of my posts are helpful, please feel free to click my scales. All information is given as my opinion only, based on my own personal experiences. We didn't get our S.A.R. but wish we had with hindsight. Our initial sales call made interesting listening though and in our opinion shows what a devious company they are when it comes to selling their useless PPI policy.
