Hi everyone, I believe I have been mis-sold PPIs on a business loan and several credit cards, I have made a start by sending a couple of letters to the credit card providers, but my big worry is that we may have been mis-sold a critical illness insurance policy, as my husband and I are both self-employed I'm not sure that we are covered, I can't see anything in the T&Cs about self-employed. Do you think we could make a claim?
I'm very confused and would appreciate any advice.

Hello Capri,
I am not to sure on this one to be honest. If it does not say anything of the t&c's regarding self-employment, maybe write to them regarding this concern and ask for confirmation that you would be covered.

Do a S.A.R - (Subject access request) herehttp://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk...s-request.htmland include a request for a copy of the master insurance policy.
If you just send letters without following the correct protocol, they will just give you the run around.
Do it as per proven proceedure and you wont waste a couple of months waiting patiently for their reply.
And you wont have to start again. ( ouch )
Trust me, i know.
Good luck.

Recently some poilicies have the minimum of 16 hours employment per week, and in very small print, say 'this includes self employment'.
MMMhhh so they are now trying to cover all options, this is ok as long as they pay out. Or will they??????? and of course for how long??????

On my policy its says that if you our covered by invol-unemployment, but change your job to self-employed after the start date of the policy your cover will revirt to critcial illness, this is with blackhorse.
a few weeks ago but unfortunately, nobody could help so after being rejected by Halifax, i`ve submitted a claim to the fos, service
i`ve also recently contacted RBS over a similar policy and also received the brush off, i therefore will be submitting another complaint as effectively every time the work dries up, you have to disband your company to claim and then it`s a case of proving you can`t find other work, obviously not suitable for 1 man bands working in the construction industry!
Their reply was , i should`ve read the small print better, my reaction to that is that it was implied by their financial advisor that i would stand a better chance of having the mortgage approved, so i probably would have signed up for anything as we were desperate- and he knew it!

What a terrible attitude to have, you should have read the small print. They should have ensured the policy was fit for purpose, but would they really care if it was'nt. More money for them and no chance of you claiming on it,they are the winner all round, now thats what I call unjust enrichment

Hi everyone, we have sent our template letters to MBNA and mint and received the standard sod off reply, so have now sent S.A.R.s and are awaiting our replies, have also sent a S.A.R. to Barclays, expect to be waiting for some time. can anyone tell us how to calculate the interest owed on credit cards as we want to use this in our next letters.
Thanks, Capri Kid
Hi everyone,
here we go! Let the games begin...
Received our very first S.A.R. (Subject access request) this week from Mint, must admit I thought there would be more information than just a printout of all financial transactions. anyway have been able to calculate how much PPI I've paid, and added 8% (is this correct). I'm writing another letter to Mint explaining the error of their ways and requesting repayment of PPIs. wish me luck,
the 'Capri Kid'

Hi everyone,
I have received two S.A.Rs, M.B.N.A and cap1 (not Mint as first posted).
Both have told me to sod off. I have written to both, advising of the amount being claimed and that I have forwarded all information to the fos. Barclays bank, now you wouldn't like a night out with them would you!
We applied for a S.A.R. back int October and so far have ony received half of my staements, so its pen to paper again to explain how they have not complied with the Data Protection Act 1998, and have given them 7 days or i shall apply to the county court for an order to enforce compliance.
I can't tell you the joy I get from writting to Barclays, after the grief I've had from them over the years.

The novelty wares off after a while.
Dont give them a day longer than they are allowed.

I would complain to the ICO and copy them on the letter. It will probably take the same length of time as the court but not cost anything.

Hi everyone, As you all know its been the festive season and I kind of let things slide a little, anyway I have spent a couple of days catching up.
We now have three complaints in with the F.O.S. for mis-sold PPIs.
Mint are well overdue with the S.A.R. having cashed the £10.00 cheque in early December, so they now have seven days to respond or they go to the next level. We received a phone call from Mint a couple of days ago, asking if we were happy with the way the problem had been handled and were we happy with the outcome. Barclays Bank! What can I say? Still we have received no further information, they have also ignored my seven days to comply letter.
Today we followed the advice of 'debt mountain' to whom I say thank you, and sent our complaint to the I.C.O. (information commissioner's Office) so now we wait.
May we wish you all a very prosperous New Year.
