    Default latest [problem]

I got my new B'card a few days ago. There was a sticker on it which siad I had to acknowledge safe receipt by phoning a freephone number. I called and was asked to go through the usual security measures and then told the receipt of the card was "going through".

There then followed the most outrageos sales pitch for identity fraud. For a small fee B'card would look out for fraudulent activity on my card, appoint a case worker to my account and let me know immediately if they detected anything untoward. The fee I was told was small but the benefits were huge. This turned out to be about £5 a month, £60 a year. Multiply that by a huge number of cards sent out and the amount of gullible people out there and you have a tidy sum. If everyone took it up there would be no unemployment in the UK!

When I told the breathless girl - well she did have to read out a script which included mentioning my name at least three times in every sentence - I wasn't interested she seemend disappointed and seemed to suggest "you're on your own then"

Don't fall for this latest money-making [problem]

My colleague at work received the same thing a couple of months ago. He called Barclaycard and when they told him the fee he replied "But isn't this what the Bank should be doing for free? This is what I expect from you anyway as it's part of your responsibility to me as a customer ..."

The person at B/card was gobsmacked and after a pause, admitted that he was right.

    The shysters ....
