Default is this another unfair PPI term?

The good lady took out an Evans card with GE Money in 2003,and we queried the PPIicon as Helen was not employed at the time(and still isn't)

They just sent back a letter rejecting the claim to get the PPI refunded, along with a copy of the original agreement with the box ticked for "you or your partner work at least 16 hours a week, self employed or retired etc etc"

that sounds like I am covered as well!I am medically retired since May 2004,so if the term is not unfair, can I then claim on the policy???

You should... except you probably have left it too late, as I bet you there will be something saying you have to notify them within x time of the incident giving rise to a claim.

You could however try to claim from NOW, arguing that since you are not looking to backdating the claim, when you became medically retired is irrelevant. It's a bit of a loophole, to be truthful, but why not?

    nice one!

I actually had a credit card with GM card with a balance of £3500 and I remembered I had PPIicon on it.....wrote off and as you say they tried the "you're too late" line.My wife wrote to them, telling them why I was retired and that I was on DLA etc,and they coughed up the lot-cleared the whole thing without a whimper!

TBH, I feel that the "must notify within x time" in itself is borderline unfair anyway. I don't see why this kind of thing shouldn't be subject to SOLA the same as debts etc are.
