Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
Which? recently did a survey of about 300 Broadband customers and found that actual speeds were not as advertised.
We thought that we try and produce a map of speed based on post codes and providers so that people could actually find out what they were likely t get before making their choice and putting their money down.
Here is the beta. It needs testing and lots of comments please.

It may also be that if people find that there are consistently lower speeds than advertised for their area, that they may have a claim against the provider

It'd depend on the speed of the wireless link, although the standards are 11Mb and 54Mb I believe ... so they shouldn't be a limiting factor on an 8Mb line

Not really, assuming the other laptop wasn't using a lot of bandwidth. Your 8Mb is available to share over both laptops (it's not a case of the router allocating 4Mb for each machine).

Did you click the second link under 'the broadband survey' menu on the left of the page? After you enter your postcode, it should perform the data and show you the results

DOne it now and the results looked like they were in English, but make absolutely no sense whatsoever to me :o
The CAG speedtest gave me an average of 3.79 Mb/s, whilst BTs own BTSpeedtest gave me 2.45 Mb/s...and all on a service that is supposed to provide close to 8 Mb/s...but I have gone off on this one many times before...

Also, what can you do if your speed is consistently lower than advertised (as mine seems to be!)?

I've tested the capacity of the CAG server from another dedicated server in the UK. I got a consistent 10Mb/sec, so the CAG server can certainly send at 8Mb/sec. Not sure whether the 10Mb peak was due to limits on CAG's bandwidth or on Rack Space's (the company that the other server is with).
I think we'll have to warn people on connections over 10Mb that there are so many limiting factors (send speed of CAG, speed of intermediate networks), that the results won't be too reliable. That said, someone on a 20Mb line should still get 10Mb for our test. At least the fact that Spice's BT test was slow too helps to validate our results.
This should be interesting.
Whats the betting that Talk Talk/carphone warehouse are the biggest fraudsters with their offerings ?
The speeds are very likely to be on a par with their customer service team responses to customer complaints.............ex tremely slow
