Direct Line Insurance Avoid Like The Plague

I would never ever use this company again. This company put me through nearly a year of hell. I had fully comprehensive car insurance icon

and through no fault of my own my car suffered a mechanical failure causing an accident. They came up with excuse after excuse not to pay out. The insurance accessor was down right rude and obnoxious. To call staff who answered my telephone calls icon

incompetent would be a compliment. After months of battling with solicitors on this case they had no choice but to agree to pay out. I was told the car would be scrapped and i was offered an agreed sum of money for the car, ten days later a cheque arrived for nearly half the value of what was agreed. I never did get my money back.
There slogan is "A good deal better" what a joke! I've got a good mind to sue them for false advertising!
Avoid this company at all costs, just listening to their tv adverts makes me feel sick after the living hell i was made to endure. Believe me if you use this company you will regret it.

And yet its still one of the the largest motor insurers in the UK and part of one of the biggest global companies in the world.
I'm not defending it in any way, I'm sure your experience was appalling, i'm just making the point that in the great scheme of things, they cant be that bad otherwise they'd be losing customers left right and centre.

Did you take your case to the Ombudsman icon

? If not, and if you haven't formally complained it's not too late to act.

Direct Line Insurance has changed in recent years - for the worse IMO.

They are arrogant and use devious tactics to get out of their obligations.

"And yet its still one of the the largest motor insurers in the UK"...since when did that become any kind of endorsement. It just means they, like other dominant industry-players, think they can treat individual customers like dirt, which they are now doing to me.

I will never use them again either. They used to be an ok company but now their people think (like the banks did) that they are invincible.......we'll see.

You must complain to Ombudsan Services. It will cost you nothing and it may get you your other half of the money back. Did they say why they paid only 50% of the agreed sum?
