    Default Doncaster Borough Council Warrant

My problem is this in 2002 i had a baby girl and decided not to go back to work for a while, i was on the register for a council rent house because my daughters dad chucked us out and i was living with my parents (not pratical), DBC came up with a lovely 3 bed house and i soon got the keys and moved in (sept 02), because i was a lone parent and out of work i recieved benefits at the time (council and rent i think), i met my now husband just before i moved in there and we lived separatly till march 04 when i moved in with him and gave up the tenancy, i also notified them of a forwarding address (because they asked for one). Now about a year ago i recieved a phone callicon from DBC asking me about unpaid rent i told them i don't think i owed the money as at the time as was in reciept of benefits and asked for the term they were claiming for, i heard nothing since and thought they may have realized there mistake, but today i recieved an "Notice of Issue of Warrant Execution" for DBC for the amount of £699.37, it says i need to pay £162.25 before 5th Aug or the baliff will call and maybe take my goods, what can i do to stop this.

They would have gone through the county courticon for this so you should be able to apply to get the warrant suspended ie stop the bailiffsicon ( link below ). Then you need to speak to the council to find out exactly what period it is they are talking about; as you said before you should be able to track back & they should be able to see that you were on benefits at the time.

Were you ever awarded just partial housing benefit which left a shortfall for you to cover? I would query with them and ask for a Breakdownicon; ask them to confirm anything in writing.

I would then still complain about the time it has taken for them to chase on this - do this in writing, keep a copy & send recorded delivery. If you don't get any joy you can take it to the Local Government Ombudsmanicon. But get this warrant suspended first:

If you didn't get the original county court claim form you could also apply for a set aside:
