credit cards for people with iffy credit files....
Hi, I have 2 CCJs from 5 years ago showing on my credit file as settled. I also have an alliance and leicester account with three payments showing as late in the last year (from when I was recovering my charges.... never could get them to remove that bit ). I've been living here for over a year and I'm on the electoral roll. I don't have any other credit accounts, just a basic bank account.
Anyone got any particular providers to suggest / recommend that I might be able to get a credit card from?

Best bets for adverse credit are probably Capital One or Barclaycard.

It's unlikely that you will be able to get a credit card. The CCJ's being settled don't make a huge difference - they still show up as CCJ's on your credit file.
What you would be able to get is a prepaid Mastercard such as offered by cashplus. You don't get credit as you have to put funds on to the card to use it, but you can use it in the same way as a normal Mastercard.

really barclaycard? wow I didn't think they would touch the likes of me!
I was on to Capital One but just wanna see if there's anything else about. Thanks.

Barclaycard and Capital One are the only two I can think of that offer such cards. The Barclaycard one is called 'Initial'. I'm not saying you will get one, but they are more likely to accept you than others. Just bear in mind that with both providers, if you do get accepted, the APR is quite shocking.

If you have a look at sites like moneysupermarket.com they will give you some options. Be aware if you do get one you are looking at between 30 & 40% APR.

Thanks, yeah I know it's not guaranteed. I don't even really need one with the CCJs I am used to living within my means now.... but I want to try to buy a flat when the CCJs fall off the file next year so thought it would be a good idea to try to start getting a credit history, and just buy a couple of bits each month and clear it in full.

Aqua Card From Halifax Offer Cards To Peeps Like Me (who've Been Refused By Barclaycard And cap one Which Is Strange As Ive Checked All My Credit Reports And It Aint That Bad!!). They Dont Use The Credit Scoring System As Such And Judge Each Application On Its Own Merits, According To Their Literature, So Could Well Be Worth A Try. Also I Paid My Billl By Debit Card One Month The Day Before Payment Was Due, But It Didnt Credit My Account Till Two Days After. They Took Off The 12 Quid Charge For Paying Late No Probs.
