    Default MG & MG ZR's

    How we all doing,

I am thinking about maybe getting a new car in the next few months. I like ZR's, but obviously MG went bust, im not up on cars or car things, but i seem to remember someone buying MG. So my big question is, if i were to buy a ZR, is it a case of the parts are available now, but when they run out, they run out cos no one is making them?

Also my current car is lowered and i prefer the ride, so i would be looking to lower the ZR but again is anybody making bits for ZR's?

Only other option would be a Leon or Ibiza, dont want a Peugeot, got one now, dont want another, same goes for Ford. VW probably out of my price range for the kind of thing i want

So if anyone knows anything relating to the availabilty of MG bits, it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

If it was my choice I would be running a mile from former MG. Most dealership groups offloaded the MG Franchise b4 the collapse of the company. It is now owened by nanjing Corporation, a Chinese company. Parts are still readily available for the older models but what does the future hold for the brand? Let's just say that the Chinese and especially nanjing Corporation do not have a good record on safe cars.

PS I used to drive a ZT

All parts are still available via Express factors, Unipart and the Rover dealerships that still exist. There is no shortage of parts and the car you are interested in is not Chinese made if you are thinking of a second hand one.
If it's the V6 with the Honda engine I am very envious.

Parts availablity for Rovers and MG's is not a problem. I have a Rover 45 and I have had no problems whatsoever. There are companies such as Rimmer Brothers who specialise in Rover/MG and can get routine service parts as well as the non routine parts with no problems. Body parts are easy to come by too.

This is a good forum for advice on Rover/MG's:-

getting parts is no problem, the problem is the build quality to start with, the K series engine used in rovers and MG models is poorly build. My MGF has had 2 full engine rebuilds with in 4000 miles from 2 different faults. My friend has a 75 which has had his rebuilt after 83k for over heating problems. you might save money on the car at 1st but you'll probably end up paying more in the long run. If you want a low millage MGF with a Rebuilt engine i'll sell you one, no expense spared lol

    Hi Wednesday,

speaking from experience, i'd steer well clear of the MG. I had a ZR on an 02 plate with 34000 miles on the clock when I bought it. It was the 120+. Firstly the Central Locking Packed in, then one of the elrctric windows came down on its own and wouldn't go back up, particularily frustrating as it was one of the clodest wettest days of the year, then the "BIG" one, the cylinder head gasket failed and subsequently threw a piston through the engine block. Had it repaired by a then Rover dealer who told me that "it would probably fail again" and to get rid of it. I know a few people who have had rovers and most have suffered the indignity of the failed head gasket on the K series engine. I traded it in for a Skoda Octavia VRS and have never looked back. Out of your choices, I would go for the Leon.If you do go for the MG as I did after numerous warnings, just remember YOU WERE TOLD!! LOL
