Default CCA request sent 'signed for recorded' or is it?

Have just checked the royal mail tracking system with some (five) refs of CCA requests i sent on 9 july.

Have printed electronic proof of delivery for two, two more say come back later details are not yet available online and the last one says item delivered from XXXX office on 11 July, sorry no EPOD available.

Question - can I assume that this service does guarantee delivery and therefore stick with timetable or am I going to need to resend them all special delivery??

The post office are making a fortune out of me this year.........

I have had the same problem with recorded delivery, some banks and DCAicon's sign for whole sackfull's so there is sometimes no individual track of delivery. Best to send Speacial Delivery which is guaranteed next day, it costs more but is more reliable.

This is the info from their website:
    Key features

    • Guaranteed delivery before 1.00pm
    • 99%* UK coverage
    • Online tracking
    • Up to £2,500 compensation
    • Prices start at £4.30. See full price list

With prices starting from just £4.30 we're confident you won't find any other next day courier service that will beat us on price.

Alternatively you could just check if they've cashed your postal order.

Thanks for replies, so quick too at this ungodly hour!

only one so far, just checked, to A and L, which said 'come back later' on the tracking system

So I can assume 12 days from the day they received CCA request?

Forget Recorded Delivery- it is not guaranteed. The mail for Recorded can be put in a postbox if you wish (No Receipt then of course)- as it is mixed with the normal 1st & 2nd class mail.

Some people mail their Recordeds at the local P.Office where they will get a stamped receipt. Don`t forget however this still does not mean your item will get there- or even get a proper signatureicon!

When Royal Mail deliver Recorded Delivery`s in bulk, they use a Bulk Delivery Card where all the barcodes are listed for that address, then the recipient just signs once at the bottom . This means when you visit the website to track it and obtain an epod of the signature, you will sometimes see your barcode (along with others) but no signature. This is because a Bulk Delivery Card (Has space for 12 barcodes on each side I think) has been used and thus the signature is at the bottom of this card, so you will not see it online. You then ring Royal Mail who will kindly free of charge send you the rest of the card with the signature on it.

I prefer a guaranteed service- like Special Delivery (£250 compensation possible- Recorded is only £34). This item is constantly tracked from the moment you post it (at the P.O- then at the Mail Centre- then at the Delivery Office- then when they leave for delivery- then when they are delivered or returned undelivered) right through to delivery/ attempted delivery. The items are put in a sealed bag and dealt with seperately in a secure area at Royal Mails Distribution Network (in your local area if you have one). Recorded Delivery is not dealt with seperately and mentioned earlier you can just pop one in the postbox. Also it is only tracked once delivery or attempted delivery has taken place.

Hope this clarifies Recorded deliveries for you- all in all a waste of money if you want it next day guaranteed.

conrad - you need to pop into yr local Post Office and get a form P58 - I assume you still have yr postal order receipts?
On the subject of Special Delivery - there is no compensation. Only insurance! You get your fee back, if Royal Mail fail to attempt delivery by 1pm, but the contents are insured for what they are worth (an A4 piece of paper?!) You can take out consequential insurance (for a fee)!

Royal Mail state it is compensation as per the following:-

Use Special Delivery™ and get up to £500 automatic compensation cover for loss or damage. When you use Special Delivery™ Next Day your item will be automatically covered for up to £500. If the item is more valuable you can buy additional compensation cover up to £2,500.

You can claim compensation for late delivery in writing within 14 days of posting. Remember to include your proof of purchase receipt.

You can also claim compensation for loss or damage in writing within 12 months of posting, as long as you include your proof of purchase receipt

the point I was trying to make rich, is that the onus is on you to prove the market value. I hear every day of my working life - "i hope my special delivery goes missing, I'll get £500" - and you wont! You will get the market value of the contents up to £500, and if we are talking about a letter, the market value is minimal - thats why I mentioned consequential loss, which gives you insurance for the 'consequence' of the piece of paper going missing! But I guess we digress - lol!

I know what you are saying but obviously Royal Mail are gonna make sure the full `compensation` figure is not dished out unless you can prove the value. If there was a feeling that every letter mailed in this way would achieve a recompense of £500- more and more customers would use the service. Retrospectively the clerk at the P.O. should always then ask you of the value of contents before proceeding with the Special Delivery- this way you can`t then change the amount if you put in a claim.
