Thread: help may be required

hi any advise would be grateful

i'm doing this as a good samaritian i have recently had a number off wins from different banks, Abbey was not one of these. While bragging about my successes my neighbours told me of their misfortune.

On the 17/06/07 they recieved a deed of assignment from the abbey saying that the debt had been sold to Lowell Portfolio.

This company has also written to them to confirm this

they shut down this account several years ago and have no recollection of any debt to the abbey. In a recent conversation the abbey could not locate any info on this account or any debt.

any advise would be extremely appreciated

I would really not worry about this. The onus is on Abbey and Lowell Portfolio to prove the debt beyond doubt, if they can't provide concrete proof of it, there can be no case to answer, surely!

I would write to both and ask for written documentation to prove the debt.

Nobody can just decide you owe them money without proof!

Hop this is of some help to you and them and by the way tell them they and you owe me 5k each from 12 years ago.............but I don't have any proof.........so just pay up..........I don't think so!!!

I'm not worried as it not me but they seem the pick on the poor and the old, the people may be afraid to fight it and normally pay up, i think that is is disgusting how they can get away with it.

Just thought i'd start a thread to ask for advise if i get stuck and in case anyone else is in the same situation it might be useful
