I think maybe they mean just a cheque, I don't remember them having cheque books, but remember them issuing sheets of cheques every so often.
Probably to tempt us into more debt!

Agreed, but they werent used as cheques to get a cah advance, they were used to pay run of the mill household bills, proving my point that it costs the banks less than £2 to process a cheque regardless of their useage..
If I recall from working on that side of things, cash and cheques are treated as the same, ie they do not go on as standard purchases and are levied with a minimum £2 or 2% handling fee for the advance, no difference in using Barclaycard cheques to withdrawing money from a cash machine or over the counter
