Written by John Kruse, one of the leading experts on Bailiff Law, this consumer friendly guide is essential reading for anyone who comes into contact with a bailiff.
The book is easy to understand and clearly explains the rights
a bailiff has, and also what they cannot do when collecting debts and repossessing goods etc.
I am at present in debt to this lot for just over 1200 pounds. However I received my statements this morning going back to 2004. There's more statements to come.
The total of charges for this period is 984 pounds with interest payments totalling around 550 pounds. Total 1534 pounds. They have also received payments from me of around 700 pounds.
Is there a chance they might just wipe the debt out as the charges are obviously unlawful, and it would only mean pressing a few buttons, instead of all the court rigmarole?
Is there a template letter for someone in my position, who maybe has no money to claim but could possibly have the debt cleared? Or do I have money to claim?
The credit limit on the card was 500 pounds.
We are in same situation with ltsb but so far neither of us has gone to court - bit of a catch 22 situation. We keep exchanging letters before action but as you say it would make sense for them to just write it off. I can't see an easy way out of it. Are all the £984 charges penalty charges? Wait for your other statements and post again - it would be great if they owed you money, which is the case with one of our LTSB accounts but we are still waiting for the cheque!
Hi Rooster and Goldlady, Sorry I have not posted for the last few days. I've been working away from home and have not had access to a computer. I'm going to wait for the rest of my statements . I don't quite understand why they owe me money, although obviously I'll be very happy if they do. Yes the 984 pounds is all penalty charges, which is what is keeping my debt so high.
