Stoneyboycool Vs Abbey Defaults Abbey National have put defaults against me, when the problem was really their fault!!!
Can any1 help……I’ll try to keep it short.
4 years ago, Abbey mistakenly credited my account with £30,000, of which I spent around £2500 (I know it was crazy but I was only 17). When they noticed the mistake they took the money back out of my account which left me £2,500 overdrawn. I managed to pay it back to just under £1,800. They started to threaten me with legal proceedins so I had to seek help from relatives. I put cheque in for £1800 from my grandpa to clear the debt. Once I had cleared, I closed the account and withdrew the outstanding credit of about £40. No problem. Heard nothing else from them and thought the account was closed and I was done with them.
After getting refused for a few credit cards recently, I got a copy of my credit file from Experian which said I owed Abbey £150. Had no idea what for and went to my local branch. They told me that when I closed my account, it hadn’t actually been closed coz there was interest to be added on from being overdrawn before I paid in the cheque. The interest was about 10p, which then built with cahrges and interest over the next 2 years. I argued with them for a while with no success and was told to phone the complaints dept. When I did, they were adamant I had received statements from them every month (which I hadn’t). I was on hold for 10 mins and the girl finally agreed I hadn’t had statements and that they would take away all the charges and interest and close my account.
Thought that was fine, but they didn’t remove the defaults. Now I realise how bad defaults are on your credit file and want to get them removed. Tried phoning them, with no success as they now say I was receiving statements.
They say they will only deal with it if I send it in writing.
How should I go about it????
Can i threaten leagal proceeding or just ask nicely???? Any advice would be appreciated as this is turning into a nightmare. I’m looking for my first house but am worried I won’t get a mortgage!!!!! |
