Unhappy Maintenance charges?

Hi folks
Really relieved to find a Scottish forum, cause never sure what's relevant up here in no man's land!
Can someone please help? I have plenty of charges for excess o/d for between £20 and £28., but I also have maintenance charges of £8.50 for every month I was overdrawn. Can anyone tell me what the difference is and can I claim for these too?

Hiya Jules, I had this problem too regarding maintenance charges. Think these £8.50 and £10.00 charges are a standard charge for using your overdraft facility every month. Eventhough you may still be within the limit of your overdraft they charge you more for every £ you are over £100 (in my case anyway the first £100 was free, over that you pay an additional charge).

I think these charges are still unnecessary as they charge overdraft interest on top of these maintenance charges every month.

Maybe someone more clued up will advise you but I have added them in my schedule of charges.

Good luck with your claim

Jules, I don't think including them in your claim could be considered 'chancing your arm'. Let your bank explain in court how they arrive at the conclusion that when you go overdrawn, they have to charge a) an overdraft charge, b) a maintenance charge, and c) an interest charge.

Even if they were to specify the breakdown of all these costs (which to my knowledge they have never done so far), I don't think there is a judge in the land that would rule that these charges are fair....

Thanks folks that makes me feel much happier about it. It's quite bizarre there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to them at all. Sometimes I get a maintenance charge sometimes I dont, some times it £20 charges other times its £28. I don't think even they know what they're doing!
Do you know if anyone has tried to claim more than 5years back in Scotland?
Good luck with your claims too!
