Default Landlord - again!

As part of an ongoing dispute, i provided my ex-landlord with a copy of the receipt he gave me for my deposit.

He's now used the date on this to check his bank statements, and decide i have unpaid rent, from 2004!

Can he use information provided by me to make a claim against me?

I've got cheque stub from cashing a cheque to pay him in cash for one month which he's claiming for. Didn't get a receipt off landlord, so neither of us can prove i paid it to him. Where does that leave me?

I thought about it but could not come up with an answer.

I think the best you can do is to argue that it has taken a long time for the landlord to realise that he was short.

The fact that there is no payment into the landlord's account is no evidence that payment was not made.
