Sample letter needed Hello there, I am on these forums a fair bit, because I am fighting bank charges, but this is my first time on the "tenants" section because I here to try and help someone else.
My sister in law moved into rented accomodation with a private landlord just before xmas. She told me there was damp on one wall, and they were going to sort it before she moved in, but because her current property was sold and the new people were about to move it, she had to move in whilst the damp still waiting to be treated.
I have since seen this damp and it's appalling, the whole corner of the room is black and far worse than I imagined. She has an 8 year old daughter and I am concerned about spores and asthma etc. Since moving in she has since made several calls and requests to her landlord but I think his attitude is.... now you are in I don't need to please you and I don't need to bother.
She wants to withhold her rent to make them fix the damp, but I am concerned about this just leading to her eviction. As she has no access to a computer and I am a bit more experienced in standing my ground, I am trying to help.
So....does anyone know if there is a standard letter on here for this sort of issue, or... does anyone know of a good link on here, for somebody who has had a similar problem with their landlord.
Thx
