Landlord lets himself in!

My landlord lets himself and his workmen into my flat without letting me know first. Admittedly on occassion it has been for essential repairs however on most occassions it wasnt and he once actually came in while i was fast asleep in bed! I had the security chain on on the inside of the door and he broke it he pushed the door so hard. I dont want to make a huge fuss as i really like where i live and dont want to cause an atmosphere but it surely cant be right to do what he's doing. i dont know how to broach the subject without making him think i'm a difficult tenant.

Send him a letter pointing out that by entering the property for any reason apart from emergencies is a breech of the tennancy agreement and that letting workmen in without giving you notice and the chance to be there leaves him open to problems if anything goes missing.

Try play it along the lines of you are worried about things going missing and don't want any trouble for him.

as far as i know, it is as of yet undisputed, that landlords usually have to give you 24 hours notice before they enter the property.
