Default council debt
hi

i was wondering if any one could help me, i moved into a little bungalow over a year ago and moved out after xmas 2005, but in order to getthe bungalow i took a rent in advance from the council.i was paying it off in my benefits but then i moved out and didnt get my deposit back so persumend that they took it to pay the rent in advance. but just a couple of weeks ago i got a debt collectors letter requesting the money and added charges. i have had no letters or phone calls of the council to tell me that it has not been paid or how to pay for it. is this right??

also i got a letter for council tax and they have charged me £40 for the letter is this right??

Can you confirm the dates of moving in and out of your homes and also were both homes council properties? What do you mean by rent in advance?
