Help Letting agent hasn't passed on rent to landlord

Two months ago I found out my letting agent was not passing on my tennant's rent (now totals over 6000 pounds).
I can't find any evidence the letting agent is registered with RICS, NAEA ombusdsman for estate agents or ARLA.
With over 5000 pounds owing, I gather it can't go to small claims.
Agent hasn't replied to any emails or answered relevant questions by phone on 5 separate occasions.
Still appears to be trading judging by internet sites (places to let).
I'd probably go to a CAB for advice or police to ask if criminal charges could be laid but, having married an Australian, I'm currently in Oz ( and not watching the cricket ).
What can I do to get my money back?

I think the priority should be to make sure that from now on the rent goes straight from the tennants to the landlord.

As to the agents, I believe you'd have to try fairly hard to get the police involved. Speak to a solicitor and start proceedings to recover the money - the plus side of it being over £5k is that you can claim for legal fees as well.

What did your tenancy actually say about rent payments. Did it state that you pay the agency or the landlord ? If it stated you can pay the agency and you have all your receipts then it isn't your problem, it's your lanlords and he must seek to get his money. As the previous poster states, it may be worth making sure that from now all payments go direct to your landlord.

I think he means he is the Landlord and hes not gettting the money from the agent. get your solicitor involved contact your agent to see if they made a mistake and put the money into a different bank account. check that the tennant is paying. do a threatening letter about the situation to the agent.

after reading again i see you have been unable to contact the agent. send a recorded delivery letter, if you have someone in england you could give them power of attorney to deal with the problem so you could claim via england courts system. (i think)
