Antisocial behaviour

My Neighbour moved into the adjoining property to me on 1st April 05. Since then my families life has been a living hell. They are refugees and when they moved into the property there was 4 children and 2 adults the noise from the family was disgraceful. Each time we knocked to ask them to keep the noise down the said sorry shut the door and carried on with what they were doing. I telephoned the police but i was told they did not deal with this type of report and i should contact my housing office. This was at 4am and my husband is up for work every morning between 5am & 5:30am. They then moved people into the property with them so of course this made the noise worse. We did report it to the housing but i was so tired and stressed i didn't do the diary. In April 06 they disappeared and despite numerous complaints from several other tenants to the council about the property being abandoned it was 17wks before they returned or so we thought. We then realized that the family now living in the property is actually a group of teenagers. they are having all night parties, playing football in the house in the middle of the night, banging on walls, screaming and shouting at each other and so on. I reported this again to the council explaining my rights under the human rights act and received a letter asking me to let them have a contact number which i telephoned and gave them both my home number and my mobile number that was the 23rd November and have heard nothing from the council since. what should i do now and what are my rights?

You really need to keep a diary of all incidents times noises etc and give it to the council. It will take a while but if there is enough evidence - especially if its more than 1 neighbour complaining - they should getmoved on.

Officially the MP can't do anything, but he can call the right people and get things moving.

I've had problems of noise from the neighbour above me since moving into my current council flat and he's made my, my partner and our 2 month old son's life a living hell. He's had four stereos siezed by environmental health due to noise, threatened us, got his mates to smash our kitchen and rear door windows and much more. Complained to the council and so far they have warned him several times, served a notice seeking possession which they then converted to a warning after he signed an acceptable behaviour contract which he has broken. And still they do nothing. Interestingly in a recent survey 75% of their tenants were unhappy with the antisocial behaviour policy. Pretty obvious why

I can truly sympathise with your plight but all you can do really is keep reporting to the relavant people and keep logs of incidents as people have said

I actually filed a claim with the county courts against my landlords for their apparent toleration and endorsement of his behaviour and the distress suffered to my family. They are in the process of settling this claim out of court with me having admitted partial liability (next I'm claiming against the person who is actually responsible for his behaviour: Him!). Not saying this will work with you but it may get the landlords attention

I Faxed my MP on Friday 5th. I am now waiting for a response from him. Fingers crossed that he does and its a good response.

Hi just to update you.

I recieved an e-mail last week from mp to say he has forwarded my e-mail to my local councellor, Yesterday i got a phone call from the councillor to say he would help as much as he could.

I today recieved a call off the lettings manager to discuss my problems and is planning on paying an unplanned visit to the property this week as well as a letter to them to make a date for a meeting with him to discuss the complaint.
