| | Basic Account Customer | Agents, landlords and the data protection act Hi,
Through reading the backposts on this forum I've a good idea of the legal process I should follow to try and retrieve our deposit, however, I'm pretty much stuck at go. We moved out of our rented flat 8 weeks ago, and the agent signed it off with no problems. 6 weeks ago we supplied the final utility bills as per our tenancy agreement.
Since then we've made several phone calls. and received several promises from the agent, but there's been no sign of our money. Therefore, I think it's about time we bypassed them and contacted the landlord in writing. The problem is, the agent refuses to give us his contact information, stating that they are not at liberty too because of the data protection act.
I'd be grateful if anybody could confirm whether this is the case, and if so any suggestions as to where to go from here would be most welcome. |

| | Basic Account Customer | Re: Agents, landlords and the data protection act Yep just the agents address on the tenancy agreement unfortunatley. The only address the land registry have for him is that of the flat We moved out from too! Looks like were pretty stuffed really.
Edit:
Just had another read through my tenancy agreement and found a paragraph I hadn't noticed:
Our Name: Landlords name
Our: C/o agents address
This is also the address where you can serve notices and send legal documents to us in line with section 48 of the landlord and tenant act 1987.
Lesson one: read agreement properly!
