Default Landlord got me beaten up!!

Well i say landlord i mean my girlfriends landlord. She signed agreement. I just stayed with her.
We left approx 1 month ago. We couldn't pay the rent so we left. Told him we could not pay and the deposit to be used as last months rent. Maybe not correct but we left and technically he is not out any real money.
Anyway, after we left he was not at all pleased. There were cream carpets, which through wear ant tear got slightly stained.
He expressed his anger to many local people. He then said to a few local people i had been selling drugs from the house. In the town i live, was out walking the other evening and approached by a number of young men and suffered at their hands.
Was told basically why they did it by a neighbour. I am reaaly cross, anthing i can do?

Report it to the police and get it investigated properly by them they should take it very seriously, will this neighbour back you up on this or will he deny all knowledge.

At the end of the day he has a motive for doing it, did you report him for making these allegations against you? You really should have if you havent as this is very serious if the wrong person got that information you could end up getting your place searched for nothing.

Go to the police and then get some legal advice urgently

nathal,in reply to your post:

1.Go to the police and make sure to report the incident.

2.Get the culprits and your previous landlord prosecuted.

3.Sue your previous landlord - use a mailing address for this purpose.

If you want to do this, read previous posts within the Landlord & Tenant Section on this forum.

4.However,in order to improve your chances of success, get a witness/witnesses on your side.In my view,it is more important to get prosecutions than compensation.

5.I you have suffered physical injury, you should be able to get compensation from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme.

Anyway,I hope you find this information useful.

If you have any questions, just ask.

Keep us posted.

All the best!

nathal:

No,mailing address - where you can receive/collect and have mail forwarded to you for very reasonable fees. This is so you do not reveal your current home address.

Nathal in reply to your question:

1.No.A post box can be traced. If your exlandlord arranged for you to be beaten up I do not think it is a good idea to use any address link your current address.Would you not agree?

2.You should look in Yellow Pages under "Secretarial/Office/Accomodation Address" Services.
