LL wants to change tenancy to a joint tenancy Currently I live in a house where we are all on separate AST tenancies which includes our room and communal areas. Currently we are averaging about £450 a month inclusive of bills with 5 of us. This is after a rent increase this year with an agreement not to increase the rent until next year.
Today our landlord called my housemate informing us that he wants to change the tenancy to a joint tenancy, with a sum of £2000 exclusive of bills. Also 3 of the other housemates have already set dates to leave which just leaves myself and one other.
We both do not want to enter this agreement, as it will make the rent higher (will include council tax of £1200 + water, elec, gas which we we expect to cost alot more then £50 a month overall). It also puts the bane of finding new housemates or paying the extra rent on us and not the landlord.
What can the landlord do if we refuse to enter this agreement and any other advise?
