advice on 1st time letting

just wondered i earn approx £550 per month as only 21

my partner is unemployed after redundant in november we do get help for current rent etc we are not married we do have a 3 yr old no pets etc

he has ccj from yrs ago etc

we been looking to rent privately as had enough from the council living in a flat etc no exchanges anywhere

a lot of problems we encounter because he is'nt working landlords wont touch us or do we tell a little white lie

i get it all in my name then add him later on even thou we'd get the rent paid it wont be forever well i hope not he's doing electrics course in 2 weeks so he want's his own independance in business 4 times redundant in 6 yrs so hopefully all goes well

yes so we find loads of property etc but they wont accept us we do have 600 a month tops 126 per week off council any extra we pay he's even considering shelf stacking work and carnt even get the job doing that

so any tips and tricks would be great

have you discussed your situation with a councillor, having a child in a flat is no fun, I wonder if they could help with referal to a housing association for example.
I am aware that in some areas of the country flats are being demolished and those living in them have automatic right to the new properties.

yes sorry for late reply on this subject yes discussed it no joy best option is to rent i suppose and what we put on forms is to us he said how strange

At that pay level, my first suggestion would be that you arent claiming all of the benefits available to you. Check this website: Start Calculation

With regards renting, most landlords are happy to accept HB tenants(which I have very little doubt you would be entitled to) as it is a guaranteed monthly payment after the initial setting up teething problems. I would check out your benefit position, then you will be in a better position to know what you can tell prospective landlords.
