Are you still under the original agreement or have you signed another with the housing association?

It's not what they said that matters, it is what it says on the TA. Have they changed the tenancy from secured to assured?

Then you must contact them as soon as possible and let them know that they have made an error. Take your old TA along to show them.

The housing association cannot grant you a lesser tenancy at the same property - any housing association acting within good practice would not ask you to sign a new agreement without explaining the implications first. I dont know the circumstances surrounding this but it may be that you have an assured tenancy with preserved rights, you may have lost your secure tenancy because of rent arrears and they have obtained a suspended possession order (you will know if this is the case), and were a tolerated trespasser. If the latter is the case then you will have lost the security of your tenancy and you would need to ask teh court to reinstate you tenancy but this would only be at the assured level.

Main difference is with secure tenancy you would have right to buy, assured you dont, lost of other little differences too.

Hope this helps -
