Default Gas heating boiler council property

Hi,
I am so angry with the way i have had to go without heating and hot water for a week now.
My Central Heating boiler stopped working on Thurs 15th Nov and I reported the repair on Friday 16th. I was told they could not get anyone out to look at it till the Monday, I stayed in all day waiting phoning the council twice to make sure they where coming, I was told they should have been already and that they would e-mail the contractors to find out where they were but i heard nothing from them. They didn't turn up till Tuesday afternoon (2 young lads who didn't have a clue and ended up phoning someone telling them the problem with the boiler and asking what they thought was wrong with it) I was told it needed a small part fitted and would take 2 days. So i booked Thursday off work.
On the Thursday when i expected them to come and repair it i received a card stating they would be coming Friday to repair it. At this point i was furious as i had already had 3 days off work and had to book yet another off. They turned up half an hour ago to repair it at last only to be told the 2 lads that came on Tuesday had given the wrong diagnosis and that it is the circuit board that needs replacing. I am now going to have to book another day off work as they cannot come back now till Monday.
I am so annoyed that the council have left us without heating for over a week and by the time it is fixed i will have lost 5 days pay maybe more cause they are not very reliable at turning up when they say they will.
I am interested to know if I could be entitled to compensation for this?

Many thanks,

Roz

in a perfect world then yes you would.
contact your local council ( in writing ) stating all of the above points, and if possible paperwork off your employer to confirm your loss of wages, and state that you believe you are entitled to compensation.
the problem is, if the engineers are a separate company, ( which they usually are ) then the council will tell you to try and claim from them and thats a whole different ball game.

in the defence of the two young guys, dont slate them down. All engineers, including me, started somewhere. We all make mistakes. A PCB (circuit board) is a bloody expensive part, and not to be ordered lightly. Give the youth a break, they need to learn the trade by making mistakes. Its hassle for you I know, but I sure that in your line of work, you made mistakes as well, that cost people time and money.....

I think when it comes to Gas there is no room for mistakes. Its a dangerous and risky job to do.
When anyones life is at stake these youths should have been fully qualified (which i doubt very much they were) or with a fully qualified Gas engineer.
For the record I am a fully qualified mother. I can honestly say I am proud of rearing them mistake free and very proud of the way my 2 children have turned out.

Wow, you must be the only one in the Universe
I've got teenagers and am still learning on the job. I gave one of my kids low self-esteem because I was demanding too high standards and another one, with whom I was then too slack, turned out as a brilliantly selfish charmer!

Sorry for the hijack!

oh, i agree that someone should of been qualified with them!! I wasnt disputing that, and no you cannot be too safe with gas, however a PCB does not cause and gas safety issues at all, it just stops it working! but I do agree that someone with some experiance should of been there that is qualified
