Unfair deposit deduction

Hello There,

We (myself and my friend) had rented rooms from roomsintown.co.uk and they charged us intial deposit of 400 pounds. Now, when we decided to leave, they have charged us 210 pounds stating that kitchen top is damaged. This kitchen top was never mentioned in inventory list. Could you please let us know where to get started? Also, we spent around 2 months to get the deposit back!

Did you in fact damage the kitchen top? What damage are they claiming?

We are not sure. Inventory check happened after we vacated. The owner says there are lots of scratches on worktop and he charged myself and my friend around 200 pounds for the same (for buying a new worktop and fixing it). Looking for a solution for the same
